Background: Jim (“Fitz”) is a retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent with 20+ years of investigative experience. He is an FBI-trained Profiler and Forensic Linguist with over 12 years of case experience, research and instructional experience. Fitz began his career in law enforcement in 1976 as a police officer in Bensalem Township, PA. After 11 years of police work culminating in his promotion to Sergeant, Fitz was recruited by the FBI. After graduating from the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA, he was assigned to the New York Field Division’s Joint Bank Robbery Task Force. In 1995, he was promoted to Criminal Profiler at the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime, which would later become the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). Through myriad investigations including Homicides, Kidnappings, Serial Rape, Extortion and Workplace Violence, Fitz refined his skills in Text Analysis and Threat Assessment. These skills were used in the UNABOM investigation and led to the capture and conviction of Ted Kaczynski. Fitz was portrayed in the recent TV Series, Manhunt: Unabomber on Discovery Channel/Netflix. The series was created and written by XG’s own Jim Clemente, who also worked the UNABOM case along with Fitz.

 

With respect to his work in media and entertainment, Fitz has served as a Script Technical Advisor on Criminal Minds, (CBS) from 2008-present, and Technical Advisor on Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (CBS) in 2010. He has also appeared on a variety of news programs and outlets, including CNN, Washington Times, Dow Jones News Service, America’s Most Wanted, A Current Affair (Australia), The Richard Gordon Show (Australia) and Newsmax.com. Fitz Earned a BS in Criminal Justice from Penn State University, a MS in Organizational Psychology from Villanova University and an MS in Linguistics from Georgetown University.

 

Expertise: Fitz in an expert in the fields of Homicide Investigation, Sexual Assault Investigation, Serial Offenders, Text Analysis, Threat Assessment, Author Profiling, Authorial Attribution and is considered the Bureau’s first Forensic Linguistic Profiler. He is also a Certified Police Instructor and Expert Marksman.
